Bats in the Belfry

{This Girl Reads}

Even the biggest book enthusiasts have some bats in their belfries about things in books that drive them insane.

Five things that drive me insane in books...

* Cruelty animals or children.
* The author talking to the reader.
* Cover doesn't match the content.
* Ends with no resolution.
* End with the main characters dead or soon to be dead.

What drives you insane?? In books...

9 comments:

  1. The repetition of a specific phrase. Not something meaningful such as a character's personal catchphrase, or an all-important prophesy, or a callback to an earlier moment in the story. But a needless, lazy, annoying repetitious description.

    For instance, in a recent read, reference was made to a character's "ropey red hair" at least a dozen times. Almost every time she was onstage, I had to hear about that damn ropey, red hair. Like it mattered. But it didn't. I wanted to black out those lines with a Sharpie! ;)

  2. I so agree with you on the first four points. They could be on my list, too. :)
    I don't mind if the main character is dead if his/her death makes me cry.
    Here is my list.
    Thanks for stopping by my blog!

  3. I go insane if I don't like the main character very much. Just finished a book that I kept wanting to put down cause the characters were not nice!! The story was good, though. Now the bats in my belfry are in a frenzy I wasted so much time on it!!

  4. Gad grammar and improper use of punctuation both drive me insane, as does poorly constructed prose. I want to feel like I'm delving into the story with all five senses, with no grammatical speed bumps to take me away from the experience.

    1. Lisa,

      I like the Gad Grammar...so funny! I agree with you completely. I'm a sucker for a well turned phrase. Best of Luck with your Poe project. Can't wait to read it!!

      Thank you so much for stopping by!
