Who's Your Heartbreaker?

Oh boy! What a memory I have for you...

When I was all of about 17, I fell in love with this boy, a cowboy no less. He was a handsome devil. Tall, sweet talking...sweet smiling. My young heart just fell right at his boot covered feet.

I thought we were doing great. Out dancing on Friday nights. Rodeos on Sunday...I was a barrel racer, and he was a bareback rider. What a pair we made; I thought. When February rolled around, I thought I'd do something clever for him. I knew he'd do something sweet for me. He was just that kind of guy.

So I wrote a little poem professing my undying love and carved the short verse on the bottom of a great big Hershey bar. I was so excited all day, so anxious to give him that wonderful, teenage-girl gift.

That night he stopped by. Up to the house he came, a dozen red roses in his hand and a little bear. He said nothing at all, just handed me the roses and the silly little animal and walked away. I smiled like a love sick fool because on each of the roses there was note tied up with ribbon. And a big note on the bear.

Well, I'm not going to go over what each note said, but I will summarize it for you. Basically, he said he wanted to break up with me. He didn't think he could go with a girl who won more money than him in the rodeos and that he really felt I was too short for him.

Ha!  I cut up those roses so fast and ripped the head off of that bear and dumped the whole deal in the trash.

Then I sat down and ate HIS Hershey bar!

What a laugh I have now. That chocolate was really good!

Do you have a heartbreaker in your memory? I'd love to hear about it!

In honor of this Valentine's Day Misery, I'm giving away some sweet Montana chocolate and a $10.00 gift card to Amazon OR Barnes & Noble.

  1. We all want to love a Heartbreaker. Maybe its because of his chiseled good looks, his bad boy attitude, or the mysterious nature of him. Some Heartbreakers are just that, they know what they got and how to use it to get what they want. Then there are those Heartbreakers that don’t even realize that they are doing it. The best part about a Heartbreaker is that there is always a woman that turns their world upside down until they realize it is love. I have read many Romance Novels over the years and have run into many memorable Heartbreakers and my favorites are usually the ones that don’t even know they are Heartbreakers! Some of my personal favorite Heartbreakers are :

Kade Jamenson (Werewolf) from An Alpha’s Path. Kade is a sexy werewolf that will make you burn but a mishap with a potential mate makes him not think he will find love.

Ian MacPhie (Vampire) from All I Want For Christmas is a Vampire. Ian is a heartbreaking Highland Vampire that was frozen in his immortality when he was only 15. With the help of his friend he is given a drug that helps him age to 28 so he could look like a man instead of a child after hundreds of years. He has no idea that he looks of a warrior and the lover.

Lothaire Daciano (Vampire) from Lothaire. Lothaire is definitely a heartbreaker and his cocky attitude proves it! Thinks he’s a gift to women! Its just the sucker punch from a woman he doesn’t realize is his equal that brings him down a notch.

Marius Parker from His Contrary Bride. Marius is every part the gentlemen but doesn’t realize he could also easily be the rogue!

Benjamin Gateway from To Win His Wayward Wife. Benjamin doesn’t realize that he is a heartbreaker because the one woman he loved, he lost….or did he?

Fury North (Human with Canine DNA) from Fury and Valiant North (Human with Feline DNA) from Valiant. Fury and Valiant are strong New Species and gorgeous to boot, but because they are damaged they doesn’t think they can hold onto to the women they love.

Sigimor Cameron from Highland Conqueror. Sigimor is every bit the Highland Laird and warrior but can he hold onto to the beautiful English lady?

Joshua Striker (Werewolf) from Alexandra’s Legacy. Joshua is a scared and battle hard enforcer for his pack and he thinks that he doesn’t have what it takes to make the women melt.

  2. For me the heartbreaker is a bad boy who goes kicking and screaming into love! When he falls he falls hard!

The only heartbreakers I have encountered are literary! And my all time fav is Mr Darcy! Although, I am currently crushing on Zadist from the Black Dagger Brotherhood!

  6. I dated a heartbreaker (actually lived with him) he just wasn't ready to settle and had a roving eye. The best thing he ever did was to break up with me...it gave me the opportunity to meet my husband who is my absolute hearthrob. Thanks for the giveaway.

  17. Ouch! At least you got some chocolate to see you through it. My worst heartbreak story is from about the same age...he broke up with me via AIM away message. I was so humiliated, but at least the general consensus was that he was an utter jerk.

  20. My favorite heartbreaker is the one that your heart can’t live without. One of my best is Lucas from D B Reynolds book “Lucas” (Vampire in America series). Strong mind, well put together and tender when he needs to be.

  24. Oh man that is one of the worst stories I have heard on Valentines Day. That is truly awful. I don't have a really great heartbreak story that involves Valentines's Day, but I do have a heartbreak story. I like a boy so much when I was in high school. He would not give me the time of day, not even a second. I literally pined for this boy all through school. At our 5 year class reunion I came back a different girl than I was in high school. Let's just say I really came into my own when I went off to college. At the reunion this same boy couldn't get enough of me and was pining for me for once. He ended up fawning all over me through the entire weekend and then worked up the courage to ask me out. I turned him down and told him that he wouldn't give me a second glance back then so I would repay the favor. sbereza22(at)gmail(dot)com
